Angelique Kendal is a photographer and model, engaged to a journalist. Cameras flash in their faces outside The Met: they are a beautiful, successful black couple. Angelique came from a middle class family in East Hartford, Connecticut. Her childhood best friend was a boy named Robinson Diaz. He wrote a letter to her about killing a former classmate in Vietnam, noting it was a mercy. Robin broke her heart. Their song had been Stand by Me. This morning she heard a new rendition by John Lennon. Angelique has not stopped crying. Robin killed their happy childhood, too.
