Vasudha Kapoor Duggal
Her marital life starts with turmoil
What? Five husbands? And to be a shared wife!
Mind questions, thoughts wander around the peeping hows
Was she an object that could be shared?
Or a delicious food to be distributed and savoured?
What about her own wishes and feelings?
What if this is not what she wants?
Should she go for it or reject such matrimony?
Wasn’t it Arjun who had wooed her heart
And Krishna too had approved of the match.
A refusal would mean a refusal of Arjun too!
No no, she didn’t want to lose him, that’s the truth.
Oh! Why? why this turn of events?
Why is she going through these difficult moments?
Shouldn’t the brothers explain to their mother
What was at stake
What had she unknowingly asked to be shared
Wasn’t this clarification the most obvious next step?
But that didn’t seem forthcoming
Maybe questioning a mother’s word was not in order
The virtue of obeisance was all pervading
She looked up and took an eyeful of them
Five handsome princes, so virtuous and chivalrous
Their perplexed looks betraying the honesty within
And some agony so evident on Arjun’s expression
Though stunned into silence
The unspoken words were heard
The dilemma that she faced- was not only hers.
And that's when she could feel something shift within
The few minutes of turbulence started settling in
Her heart started to melt and some haze disappeared
The sun shone bright and the clouds cleared
Destiny sometimes has bigger plans
And she was just a pawn who had to play her part.
