The Universal Discovery of Self

What am I

The smallest semblance of me

I am myself

At war with myself

Piece together the pieces with peace

Who am I

Stitched together incompletely

My body weighing down my soul

My soul giving lightness to my spirit

My spirit free from the infinite and the finite

Where am I

I am the stars

Body bogged down by gravity

To become flesh and bone

My spirit and soul rises as the Milky Way

How am I

I am the star child

Birthed by the Big Bang

Body, soul and spirit infinitely universally free

Though Finitely Tethered to earth

Where are we

Atomic beings located in a single spot

Time bound by longitude and latitude

Our physical sphere confined to a location

Bearing the earth’s gravitational toll

Who will we be

We are as empty as the far recesses of space

We are as full of energy contained in the universe

We are as sad as grief-stricken souls on earth

We are as happy as the rainbow prism of love

We will be children of the stars for eternity

Bio

Poetry is the rainbow lens through which I view the world around me. I critically analyse socio economic problems to provide alternative solutions or narratives. My keen interest is pursuing my passion of writing poetry. Currently I am based in Sri Lanka. Within the country, there is increased development taking place with a detrimental impact on the environment. I would like to raise awareness through my poetry about issues such as climate change and deforestation. Presently, I am a law graduate who would like to specialise in Human Rights and Environmental Law.

I'm deeply moved by the adversity faced by different communities in Sri Lanka such as the plight of women in terms of gender-based violence. The stigma and exclusion of the LGBT community is of heartfelt concern. I would like to paint with my words the tapestry of Sri Lankan society. My vision is to compile a poetry chapbook on themes of feminism, humanity, anti-racism, redemption, queer possibility and environmental degradation. The importance of my discourse is giving the voiceless a voice.
