Roopali Sircar Gaur, Ph.D.

Phoenix

A frothy sea rocked endlessly against the shore. A Mumbai Marine Drive like road ran alongside. Many floral arches seemed to be waiting for somebody. I stopped in wonder. In the distance the sun rose above a small hillock encircled by the aquamarine sea. Many voices sang out joyously. It was dawn. It was a vision. That day my broken bones began to miraculously heal. It was months since I had flown off that roof and fallen like Icarus. I knew I had been touched by the divine.  Like Lazarus I had risen from the dead. Soon I walked again.
