He whispered sweetest secrets,
lavish lies from melting eyes
empty words and slick evasions,
excuses and alibis…
and she believed him.
Every. Single. Time.
He vowed eternal love for her,
'There will never be another!'
'You're SO much more than I deserve,
My dream girl, my perfect lover.'
… near-swooning, she believed his words.
Every. Single. One.
"But Mama, he is so handsome,
Love-filled eyes and sweet pursed lips
Flowing tresses entwine with mine.
Broad shoulders and slimmest of hips
Lyrical words caress my all.
They massage my heart,
they sing to my soul!
Every. One. A pearl."
No, no, my love, my darling Fleur,
heart twists and turns, seeking escape
The crassest cad; how to tell her?
Truth in gauzy veil he'll drape,
Deepen her rose-tinted vision
But will she believe me? I think not.
Only disbelief and heartfelt derision
can be expected of one so besot.
Christine Larsen is a writer, farmer, wife, mother, grandmother and rescuer extraordinaire of children (human and the knitted toy variety), plus countless animals, for more than seven decades. Always a creator, her passion for some years has been copious amounts of writing of genres including memoir, flash fiction/non-fiction and short-shorts, children's stories—and now her butterfly brain flutters around poetic fields, affording much pleasure as well as the regular blood, sweat and tears the hard taskmaster (the writing muse) demands of her chosen.
