Magical Mushroom.

Magical Mushroom.

Life beneath ground is a mystery most unholy

Up-top the magic, undeniable revelations in the making,

Multitudinous in type: form, colour, and texture.

Secretly and stealthily, ghostly webbed-digit manifestations

Inching in millimetres, questing creepily in deepest gloom.

Hyphae spore-clouds, invisible in visible optical wave-lengths,

Sky-rocket potential of seedy psychedelic delights.

Blasting microscopic nuclei clouds blown hither, thither

To sprout in the moist darkness away from the light.

Harvested spores, miniscule ovule, embryonic vitality

Collected by keepers masked and gowned, epidemic ready

To artificially inseminate in specialist nurseries - conditioned.

Puffing and huffing before: beyond, behind, all around,

Magical beginnings for purposes most rewarding.

Veritable hurricane storm-clouds of fast-growing life.

Populate stacked bunk-beds, blanketed in exotic nutrient fall-out,

Climatically nurtured, tended with love: attention, avarice.

Mycelium fingerlets bond, handfasting, casting threads far and wide

Questing, spinning, weaving with others of their kind.

Nourished, encouraged, webs quickly fabricate matting.

Hermetically controlled amazonian moisture and heat,

Tickled, encouraged, under infra-red dark-room delight.

Reaching their zenith, inevitable fungus pursues the light.

Chinking gills eager to umbrella, confirmation of terminal fulfilment,

No cross-pollination – that particular intimacy denied,

It would not suit the purposes of clinician’s laboratory trials

Suddenly ripped from slatted-beds, stopped dead in infant maturation.

Exposed in spongy-foam splendour to dastardly processes of man,

Beaten: subdued, stretched tight and thin, unexpected ….

New life is about to begin. Bacterial colonies obliterated, dead,

Friendly-chemical war raged. No polyurethane, polyvinyl, no

Poly anything at all. Zero environmental impact - magical we are so told.

Mycelium is elevated …. unconventional vegan leather!

Absorbent: odour repellent, flame retardant, dielectric, eminently edible.

The Delicious Mystery of Magical Mushrooms.
