Into the Pellucid Blue

Slipping into shimmering

Waves of poetry

Walk off the spindly pier

Leaping in an arc

Piercing the aquamarine

Veil of the sea

Surrounded by liquid coolness

A kaleidoscope

Of lush bejeweled color

A sea of iridescent

Rainbow fish

Floating above the turquoise

The teeming mass of fish

Squint at the far off

Silvery white

Sand shore

A shadow swims

Pendulously

A solitary turtle

Patterned shell

Liken ripples of sunlight

Glide amongst

Vibrantly bright corals

Mysterious foray

Into life

Under the sea

Thereafter

Drift contently

In the pellucid blue

Thine soul and body

Floating in a nimbus

Of sun lit sea-green waters

Bio

Chantal Ratnayeke,

Poetry is the rainbow lens through which I view the world around me. I analyse socio economic problems to provide alternative solutions or narratives. To raise awareness through my poetry about Environmental degradation and Human Rights issues.

Presently, I am a law graduate who is deeply moved by the adversity faced by different communities in Sri Lanka. I would like to paint with my words the tapestry of Sri Lankan society. My vision is to compile a poetry chapbook on themes of feminism, humanity, anti-racism, redemption and queer possibility. The importance of my discourse is giving the voiceless a voice.
