Slivers of silvery sky grow,
expanding, enticing,
beckoning outwards, onwards.
Sparkling summer breeze
caresses soft cheeks of childhood as,
slipping silently thru’ dew-fresh grass,
the lone child wanders, expectant,
awaiting the dawn.
Tranquillity reigns. The world is still
save for this one smiling figure
wandering the country lane, lured
by the promise held in silky-smooth
waters lying ahead.
Disturbing feet patter on rough, wooden jetty,
shocking shoals of darting minnows below.
No more firm land. Seated, feet dangling,
the child waits, eyes on the skyline, as the
world, pregnant with the promise of a new day
holds its breath.
The horizon shimmers. A golden hue glistens,
moving over the ripples: enhancing, transforming.
Slowly, majestically, the fiery furnace rises.
‘Apollo in his chariot riding the skies?’
Childhood fancies adorn the wonder of Creation,
marvelling at the sight of aureate rays
creeping ever closer, enfolding all in
life-giving embrace.
