A cool Saturday morning

A cool Saturday morning,

with the sun streaming in through the drapes,

I jumped out of the bed

and thought let’s go to the beach for a long walk.

To the beach, I took a ride

and as I reach the warm sands

A screech I hear I turn around to see

a toddler gingerly walking himself towards the sea,

The parents rushed towards to catch hold of me

as spectators watch the drama at the beach.

I sat on a rock, sipping my morning juice

when a little boy comes up to me

and asks me several questions

To which I had no answers

and kept on typing,

Then he nudged me and said:

“Hey lady, what are you writing?

I said with a smile I am writing poetry,

he laughed and tried to read and left me for a bit.

My fingers hurt so I sat on the sand

and began to build a castle

bringing back childhood memories

I had a few spectators watch over me,

one said, “mam, what are you trying to build?

I said a castle; he then said very bluntly

Ah, building castles in the air!

I stopped and looked at him as he left the place

Walking away from me.

I wondered what he must be thinking to say something like that.

I decided to sit by the pool that looked so cool and empty

I ordered a sandwich, and while I nibbled

I tried to scribble a few words,

The sun was turning warmer

I felt I had enough of the beach and the pool.

I picked up my laptop

I left for home

away from the noisy, crowded buzzing beach.
