Oh, poetic words won’t come to me now. My mind is elsewhere
My thoughts instead race over sad news of the day
War, disease, violence, rising prices, fear, despair
I cannot reconcile my feelings for you with these things
Still, I found comfort in a peaceful, quiet moment
You exist in this world, so this world cannot be bleak
I pity those people with hatred in their hearts
Waging war, shouting, carrying little signs
Embracing causes so their lives have purpose
Perhaps you are just a sweet addiction
Yet, I would give up my own life for you
That is my conviction, my weakness, my strength
I could write about my life, opine on the sadness in it
Rape, loneliness, suicidal thoughts, insecurity and rejection
I had courage enough to forgive, never being angry or bitter
It was not for nothing; hatred and you could not co-exist in my heart
And if changing anything of the past meant we would never meet
I would gladly live that pain again. True love is a rare, singular gift
I sat down to write a poem for you
Lyrical and flowery lines that will last forever
I give you rainbows, gentle cool breezes on a hot summer’s day
The Sapphire sky, glorious nature below it; the moon, stars and universe
The brilliant colors of every sunrise and sunset, musical bird songs
And forever, each heart this poem will touch, I give that to you as well
