Will's Will

1307,Uri:

The village in the mountain lap

The seed of Switzerland

Calm and cool, cool and calm

Serene and scenic, scenic and serene.

And one day they took

A Hapsburg hat to salute

Every passerby they decreed

And all in afraid, all so did.

"Why so I, why, why, why?"

Shouted the young blood

Young, hardy and bold

Brave was he, William was called.

"How dare you? How so bold!"

They brought him there, took him hold

"Salute him, salute the pole"

Each time they cried, Will refused the call.

Now they took his son

The little child was he

Soon was tied tight in a tree.

An apple was placed

On the child's little head

And Will was asked

To shoot it from afar.

Smiled the man, made a scan

Took two arrows in his quiver

Looked at his son and fixed his aim

Then came the moment of shiver.

The arrow sped fast

Hit the apple hard

A sigh of relief at last.

All clapped round, cheer abound

Came the Duke's agent forward

"If you are, so good a shooter

Why then took two arrows in quiver"

Will laughed aloud

Then made a shout

"If I missed the first

The second pierce you must."

(Based on the famous story of The Apple and the Arrow)
