Hate filled the air. Valerie sat quietly in her chair, as cruel words lacerated her mind and soul. “How,” she wondered, “had it come to this?” Her loving, attentive suitor had changed dramatically on their Wedding night. He had become more possessive, more demanding; always finding fault with her. Violent words were often followed by violent action.
The present tirade ended abruptly as he slumped against the wall. Valerie took a deep breath. “Now” she thought, “is the moment. Courage!” Standing up carefully, she walked through the open door, and moved steadily down the path. Onwards to a new life.
Bio.
Emmie Blake has always been “people-centred”: both professionally and personally. Throughout her life she has worked with, and for, people on the fringes of society: ex-offenders, addicts and migrants. She is currently heavily involved in providing practical and emotional support for refugees in the UK.
Emmie began writing many years ago, but it is only in retirement that she has been doing so regularly. She has had work published in several anthologies, online and in print. She enjoys her work as co-administrator of the online writing group ‘Aspiring Writers Society’, (AWS) and is a regular contributor to their e-zine.
